![]() These thin comparisons should clue you in to what Superconductor is trying to be. Superconductor even played at times like a comic version of The Mothman Prophecies. The latter half reminded me of a Star Trek: The Next Generation episode where the Enterprise gets caught in a loop in the space/time continuum and the crew keeps repeating the same mistakes until they ¿remember¿ how to break free. The first half of the story reminded me of that Simpsons episode where the town of Springfield is duped into building a shoddy monorail system. Superconductor is one part sci-fi comedy and one part unlikely romance. There¿s far more to the story than just that. Howard and Karen, who¿ve fallen for each other by now, must now team-up to save the town from an increasingly invasive Department of Energy. Unfortunately, Big Rick is needed in order to undo the damage already done to Sparkle Creek. Peeved that his orderly life has been interrupted by the goings-on in Sparkle Creek, and fearing lawsuits as a result of the havoc caused by Big Rick, the Undersecretary vows to shut the project down and cut the government¿s losses. comes the blandest, most efficient, and obnoxious bureaucrat ever seen, the (unnamed) Appropriations Undersecretary of the United States of America (or just the Undersecretary). (Everything located outside the superconductor¿s radius is left untouched, however.)The hysteria caused by ❻ig Rick¿ prompts the story¿s villain to arrive in town. Suffice to say that ❻ig Rick¿ unleashes some very wacky and awesome happenings upon Sparkle Creek, such as: ripples in the space/time continuum, inter-dimensional portals, and fluctuations in the town¿s gravity. I also remain a little baffled by all the (faux?) techno-jargon Howard described it with. ❻ig Rick¿ is a huge particle accelerator that allows scientists to study the origin of the universe, or as Heywood puts it, the ¿Unifying Theory of Everything.¿ That¿s a vague description of ❻ig Rick¿ but I don't want to spoil anything. ![]() This project, funded by the Department of Energy, is dubbed ❻ig Rick¿. TekCom has now begun testing a miles-wide ¿supercolliding superconductor¿ they¿ve constructed underneath Sparkle Creek, which accounts for the recent oddities. When strange happenings begin occurring around town (such as all radio and TV waves suddenly and temporarily becoming visible!), the secret goings-on at TekCom are exposed and all hell subsequently breaks loose in Sparkle Creek. That bicyclist is Howard Heywood.Howard is an eccentric, vulnerable, and brilliant scientist who also runs TekCom, the local egghead factory. Her boring life changes the day she accidentally hits a bicyclist at a crossroads. There are only two cops in this small town and Karen¿s the top one. (a good part for the likes of Paul Giamatti). ![]() She's recently gotten back together with her on-again, off-again fiancee Bob Kugelmas, Jr. Karen still lives with her dad Mitch, a contractor and die-hard Packers fan. Sparkle Creek is a mundane little community whose inhabitants are united by their obsessive devotion to the Green Bay Packers there seems to be little else to get excited about. The main characters are town sheriff Karen Green (a good role for either Helen Hunt or Holly Hunter) and boyishly exuberant scientist Howard Heywood (I can see Nicolas Cage in this role). The Superconducting Supercollider of Sparkle Creek, Wisconsin is a comedic fantasy about a rustic Wisconsin town that¿s turned upside down (almost literally) when a massive invention is discovered to have been built underneath it. There are currently no actors attached to star and no production start date has been announced. Buena Vista is the studio behind this project, which will be produced by Gavin Polone and director Barry Sonnenfeld ( Men in Black, Wild Wild West). Koepp will also direct Superconductor he previously helmed Stir of Echoes and The Trigger Effect. ![]() ![]() Koepp alone will make $2.5 million dollars plus an additional $750,000 he also has a back-end deal that includes a deferment of $1.25 million so he¿ll make a bundle off this puppy. This high-profile spec script sold a few months back, netting the writers a multimillion-dollar payday. Please visit for more info.Screenwriter-director David Koepp Stax here with my reaction to the screenplay for The Superconducting Supercollider of Sparkle Creek, Wisconsin! This 126-page draft dated January 9th, 2001 is by Wisconsin natives David Koepp ( Spider-Man, Jurassic Park) and John Kamps ( The Borrowers). Jack's unique music, a balance between aggressive, percussive sound design and dark electronic dubstep has quickly launched him into the forefront of the movie trailer world. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Total Recall(2012), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Underworld: Awakening, In Time, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, and Soul Caliber V, all have one thing in common: Jack Trammell. ![]()
